About this Plant

Wild Geranium is a reliable woodland wildflower that brightens the spring garden with soft pink-purple blooms held on airy, dancing stems. Its deeply lobed foliage forms attractive mounds, while the petals feature subtle dark lines that guide bees directly to the nectar and pollen. Blooming in mid-spring, it provides an important food source for early-emerging pollinators.

Often called Spotted Geranium, this native species offers far more ecological value than many ornamental geraniums sold in garden centers, which are frequently sterile and produce no nectar or pollen. Wild Geranium thrives in woodland edges and part-shade gardens, where its graceful flowers mingle beautifully with ferns, sedges, and other spring ephemerals.

Why Choose Wild Geranium?

Valuable early nectar and pollen for native bees
Beautiful spring blooms with delicate woodland character
Adaptable to shade or partial sun
A true native alternative to sterile ornamental geraniums
Attractive foliage that forms tidy clumps in the garden

Foliage may look tired or go dormant in summer; cut plants back to encourage fresh growth or allow neighboring plants to fill the space naturally.

Maintenance Tips

Foliage may appear tired in summer after spring blooming is done. This may die back entirely or can be safely cut back at this point to tidy up - but don't forget that this plant will return next year!
