Bristly Sedge
Carex comosa
Bristly Sedge features thick tufts of bright green leaves and distinctive, bristly inflorescences that appear in summer. This sedge naturally inhabits wetlands, shores, and swampy areas, where it plays a critical role in water purification and erosion control. Growing up to 3 feet tall, its dense foliage and striking seed heads add texture and interest to any water-related garden setting. It’s particularly effective planted en masse along pond edges or in rain gardens, where it can thrive in standing water and wet soil.
