California Brittlebush
California Brittlebush is a charismatic shrub native to southern and coastal California. Growing 3 to 5 feet tall and wide, it features sprawling, loosely mounded growth and fuzzy, fragrant, gray-green leaves that help conserve moisture in dry, hot conditions. From late winter through early summer - and sometimes again after fall rains - it explodes with cheerful yellow, daisy-like flowers that stand out vividly against the foliage.
This plant is a standout in water-wise gardens and coastal landscapes, and provides crucial early-season nectar for native solitary bees, honeybees, and butterflies emerging from winter dormancy. Finches and other small birds may feed on its seeds. Prefers full sun and well-draining, sandy or rocky soil but can tolerate clay in dry settings.
