Downy Goldenrod
Solidago puberula
Downy Goldenrod is an important plant for insects. It blooms in fall when many pollinators are creating food stores for the winter. It also hosts many species of caterpillar, including the brightly colored Brown Hooded Owlet caterpillars. It's surprisingly uncommon in gardens despite being among the most beautiful goldenrods. When in bloom, it sends up wands of brilliant golden flowers on tall red stems.
