Downy Wood Mint
Blephilia ciliata
Downy Wood Mint has a subtle mint aroma, but its real standout feature is its flowers. Rings of purple flowers are stacked neatly above one another on tall flower stalks, giving the plant its alternate name of Pagoda Mint. The flowers are visited by many native bees. Although it's a member of the mint family, it's not an aggressive spreader. Rather, it will slowly form a dense colony. The foliage has a subtle mint fragrance which keeps deer at bay. Grows best when it gets at least a few hours of sunlight and is not allowed to dry out.
