Elm-leaved Goldenrod

Solidago ulmifolia

Elm-Leaved Goldenrod is a woodland species, preferring partial or full shade. At the end of the summer, this unassuming plant suddenly erupts in sprays of arching yellow flower stalks. They are heavily visited by pollinators, and also host plants to many caterpillar species. Elm-Leaved Goldenrod needs a well-drained soil to thrive. It can spread readily in optimum conditions, so remove seedlings and sink a shovel around the base of the plant in spring, slicing any runners, to control spread.
