Fingertips
Dudleya edulis
With its slender, silvery-green, finger-like leaves and elegant structure, Fingertips brings a unique sculptural element to any dry garden or rock wall. This drought-tolerant succulent forms tidy rosettes that elongate into upright spires, giving the plant its evocative name. In late spring to summer, it sends up tall stalks adorned with dainty white flowers that attract native bees and other pollinators. Native to Southern California’s coastal bluffs and inland rocky slopes, Fingertips is a resilient and low-maintenance beauty that thrives on neglect—ideal for xeriscaping and habitat gardening alike.

Maintenance Tips
- Watering: Water sparingly. Allow soil to fully dry between waterings. Overwatering is the most common way to kill this plant.
- Soil Needs: Requires excellent drainage—plant in sandy or rocky soils, or a cactus mix in containers.
- Placement: Loves full sun but will tolerate light shade. In hotter inland areas, light afternoon shade is beneficial.
- Propagation: Easily propagated by leaf cuttings or dividing offsets in spring.
