Heart Leaved Aster
Symphyotrichum cordifolium
This hardy Aster is adaptable to poor soil and dry sites. It's a native that does very well in urban soils and disturbed sites. Heart Leaved Aster sends out cone-shaped clusters of pale blue flowers with yellow and red centers in late fall. Fall bloomers like Asters are important food sources for pollinators, and many species collect food for next year's generation at this time. Heart Leaved Aster can spread through seed, so be prepared to pull seedlings to keep it in check.
