Horseherb

Horseherb turns overlooked corners of the landscape into a living carpet of fresh green foliage and cheerful yellow blooms. Small, daisy-like flowers appear just above its rounded leaves from spring into fall, creating subtle but persistent color beneath trees, between stepping stones, and along informal pathways. Its low, spreading habit allows it to weave naturally around larger perennials and shrubs without obscuring them.

Especially useful in challenging areas where turfgrass struggles, Horseherb tolerates partial shade, filtered sunlight, periodic drought, and occasional mowing. It can also grow in sunnier locations when adequate moisture is available, though plants may remain lusher in afternoon shade. Its flowers attract small native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, adding meaningful ecological value to a plant often mistaken for an ordinary lawn weed.

Horseherb typically stays only a few inches tall and spreads to form a loose or dense mat, depending on moisture and growing conditions. It is an excellent choice for native lawns, woodland edges, erosion-prone slopes, pathway joints, and naturalistic groundcover plantings. Because it can spread enthusiastically where conditions suit it, Horseherb works best in spaces where its relaxed, self-directed growth is welcome.

• Water occasionally during establishment, then allow Horseherb to spread into a natural groundcover.
• Mow or trim as needed to control height and encourage denser growth, and use edging or hand-pulling to contain it where a more formal boundary is desired.
• Avoid broadleaf herbicides, which will damage or eliminate the planting.
