June Grass
Koeleria macrantha
This compact but showy grass adds texture and variety to the garden. In early summer, its stems are topped by fluffy, cream-colored plumes, making a lovely accent to early-blooming wildflowers. This native grass is a useful food source for herbivorous insects like grasshoppers. As the weather warms up, June Grass may go dormant and disappear from the garden, reemerging the following spring. It is very tolerant of dry, well-draining soils but does not thrive in moist areas.
