Lowbush Blueberry
Vaccinium angustifolium
Lowbush Blueberry is a compact, spreading shrub that typically grows just 6 to 24 inches high, making it ideal for ground cover or border plantings. It features small, glossy, green leaves that turn fiery red in the fall, adding significant seasonal interest. Lowbush Blueberry puts on attractive white to pinkish flowers in the spring, which develop into small, dark blueberries by mid to late summer. You can establish your own, personal pick-your-own if the birds don't get to them first! Lowbush Blueberry thrives in acidic, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade and is particularly noted for its ability to adapt to poor soil conditions.

- Thrives in acidic, well-drained soils; amend with peat moss or pine bark to maintain acidity.
- Apply a layer of pine needles or shredded leaves to help maintain soil moisture and acidity.
- Check for pests like aphids and diseases such as powdery mildew, managing them as needed to keep plants healthy.
