Purple Prairie Clover
Dalea purpurea
Purple Prairie Clover showcases distinctive thimble-shaped flowers atop upright, wiry stems. Uniquely drought-tolerant, it will thrive even in arid conditions. A member of the legume family, it's also able to add nitrogen to the soil, allowing it to flourish in and improve the quality of low-fertility soils. Its ornamental, threaded foliage adds visual allure throughout the season. Purple Prairie Clover is a great addition to a shorter planting, reaching heights of only one or two feet. This plant requires little maintenance and once established it can live for decades.
