Riverbank Wild Rye
Elymus riparius
Riverbank Wild Rye is shade tolerant, unlike other grasses. As its name suggests, it is naturally found along rivers and prefers moist soils in the garden. The seedheads of Riverbank Wild Rye resemble long, arching heads of wheat. The plant provides nesting material and seeds, making it a good plant to support birds. Riverbank Wild Rye grows most actively in cool weather, so it quicky greens up in spring.
