Sea Thrift
Armeria maritima
Sea Thrift is a hardy perennial well-suited to challenging coastal environments. This compact plant typically grows 6 to 12 inches tall, forming neat, low clumps of evergreen, grass-like foliage. From late spring to early summer, it sends up sturdy, straight stalks topped with round, ball-shaped clusters of small, pink or white flowers. These striking blooms are not only visually appealing but also attract bees and butterflies. Sea Thrift's ability to withstand salt spray and its preference for well-drained, sandy soils make it an ideal choice for rock gardens, coastal borders, and green roof plantings.

Maintenance Tips
- Drought-tolerant once established; water sparingly, ensuring good drainage to avoid root rot.
- Deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat blooming throughout the season.
- Thrives in poor, sandy, well-drained soils. Avoid heavy, wet soils to prevent root issues.
- Generally not necessary but apply a light, gravelly mulch if needed to improve drainage and suppress weeds.
- Monitor for pest issues, although sea thrift is typically pest-resistant. Ensure that the plant is not sitting in wet soil, especially during colder months.
