Short's Aster
Symphyotrichum shortii
Short's Aster is shade-tolerant and a great addition to a dry woodland garden. Asters provide an important pollinator food source at the end of the year when little else is blooming. Often loaded with hundreds of small flowers during bloom. The weight of all these blooms can cause the plant to sprawl on the ground. This can be a nice effect in a less formal, backyard or woodland garden, but to prevent this cut back in half in early summer.
