Silky Aster
Symphyotrichum sericeum
Silky Aster is a rugged little plant. Naturally found in sandy and rocky prairies, it is very drought tolerant. Silky Aster is a short plant that is only a foot or two tall. Its short, tough nature makes it a good fit for a rock garden. The fine hairs on its foliage give it its silky name and a soft gray-green color. In fall, it bursts into dozens of purple flowers that attract a variety of pollinators.
