Silky Wild Rye
Elymus villosus
Silky Wild Rye is a great addition to a shady garden. In summer the grass sends up silky, gently drooping seedheads that are an attractive gold in fall and winter. It's a quick grower and will be one of the first plants to fill out in a new planting. As the other plants fill in, Silky Wild Rye may start to fade out. Leaving the seedheads up overwinter or spreading the seed may help it persist in the garden.
