Sweet Joe Pye Weed
Eutrochium purpureum
Sweet Joe Pye Weed is a tall plant that's at home in the shade, unlike other Joe Pye species. It can reach heights of 7 feet and is topped with large, vanilla-scented flower clusters in late summer. The fuzzy pink blooms are sure to attract butterflies and other pollinators to your yard. Despite its height, Sweet Joe Pye Weed will stay upright if surrounded by other tall plants, but can otherwise lean a bit when flowering. If you'd like to reduce the height, cut the plant in half in early summer. Sweet Joe Pye will form an increasingly large clump which can be divided to control its spread.

Maintenance Tips
- Height can be reduced safely via the "Chelsea Chop" - cutting stems roughly in half in very early summer.
- Consider staking taller stems if they begin to lean in later summer
- Plants eventually will feature a dead center portion of their base - this is the ideal time to dig up the root ball to divide the plant and replant live roots.
