Tall Thimbleweed
Anemone virginiana
Few plants are as fun as Tall Thimbleweed, which takes a variety of unique forms from spring to fall. Its classic white-petaled flowers sway above its low-growing leaves in early summer. As the year progresses, the flowers are replaced by unique thimble-shaped seedheads. By fall, the seeds become tightly packed fluff, ready to take wing. Tall Thimbleweed is highly shade tolerant and resistant to deer and other herbivores.
