Texas Lantana

Texas Lantana delivers a nearly continuous celebration of color through the hottest part of the growing season. Rounded flower clusters open yellow before gradually shifting to orange, coral, and red, often displaying several colors at once. The changing blooms stand out beautifully against coarse, deep green leaves, giving this native shrub a lively presence in borders, habitat gardens, and water-wise landscapes.

Built for intense sun and prolonged heat, Texas Lantana thrives in lean, well-drained soil and requires little supplemental water once established. Its flowers are frequently visited by butterflies, including swallowtails and skippers, along with hummingbirds, native bees, and other nectar-seeking insects. Dark fruits may follow the flowers and provide food for birds, though they should not be considered edible for people or pets.

Texas Lantana typically grows 3–6 feet tall and develops a broad, loosely rounded habit. It may remain semi-evergreen in mild climates but often dies back after a hard frost before returning from the base in spring. Use it as a colorful specimen, informal hedge, pollinator-garden anchor, or durable planting for hot slopes and exposed borders.
