Torrey's Rush
Juncus torreyi
Torrey's Rush is an elegant and sturdy native grass that thrives in wetland areas. Its distinctive, stiff, cylindrical stems can grow up to 3 feet tall and are topped with small clusters of greenish-brown flowers during the summer. This plant is ideal for stabilizing soil and managing water runoff due to its robust root system, making it an excellent choice for rain gardens, wet meadows, and alongside ponds or streams. It prefers full sun to partial shade and consistently moist to wet soil conditions.
