Winged Loosestrife
Lythrum alatum
Winged Loosestrife, with its fine-textured leaves, boasts a bushy form that's adorned with vibrant lavender blossoms in mid-summer. Come fall, the foliage transforms into a rich burgundy hue, offering a final burst of color before winter set in. It draws in many types of insects and bees and serves as a host for the pearly wood nymph moth. It's at home in wet gardens as it's native habitats are wetlands. In some gardens it can become floppy, so prune in early summer for a more compact plan.
