Woodland Sunflower
Helianthus divaricatus
Unlike many of its cousins, Woodland Sunflower prefers life on the shady side, thriving in a shade or partial sun garden. This robust perennial typically reaches 3 to 4 feet in height and spreads through rhizomes, forming clumps of slender, rough-textured leaves and branching stems. From late summer to early fall, it produces multiple small, bright yellow flowers with dark centers, attracting various pollinators before supporting seed-eating birds in autumn.
