Blue Vervain
Verbena hastata
Add some variety to your garden with Blue Vervain. This plant produces dainty flowering stalks at the branch tips, resembling a candelabra. A ring of minute blue-purple flowers moves slowly up each stalk over a long bloom period. Despite the small size of its flowers, Blue Vervain is visited by many pollinators. Naturally found in wet soils, Blue Vervain thrives in soils with wet or medium moisture. This short-lived perennial can be maintained long-term in a garden if allowed to self-seed. Prone to powdery mildew, a nonserious leaf disease that turns foliage white, it's best if tucked behind or within other flowers.
