Canada Goldenrod
Solidago canadensis
Canada Goldenrod is a perennial wildflower with a nearly ubiquitous native range across much of North America. This robust plant typically reaches heights of 3 to 5 feet and forms dense clumps of lance-shaped, toothed leaves along its rough stems. In late summer to early fall, it produces showy, upright panicles of tiny, bright yellow flowers. These flowers are not only a visual highlight in any garden but also provide essential nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators during a time when few other plants are in bloom. Canada Goldenrod is highly aggressive, and thus more typically used in wildflower meadows, naturalistic borders, and ecological restoration areas.

Maintenance Tips
- Drought-tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season to encourage deep rooting.
- Cut back in late winter to early spring to manage growth and maintain desired shape.
- Adaptable to a variety of soil conditions but prefers well-drained, loamy or sandy soils.
- Apply a light layer of organic mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.
- Monitor for pests and diseases, though Canada goldenrod is generally low-maintenance. Manage growth as needed to prevent it from outcompeting less aggressive plants in garden settings.
- More likely to arrive in your yard on its own - don't be afraid to pull this plant to leave some room for other species as it can be quite aggressive if left unchecked.
