Canada Wild Rye
Elymus canadensis
Canada Wild Rye is a versatile and fast-growing native grass that provides structure and texture to the landscape. It can reach heights of 3 to 5 feet, with distinctive, gracefully arching seed heads that add movement and visual interest. The seed heads emerge green and mature to a golden hue, creating a warm, seasonal contrast in meadows, prairies, and naturalized gardens. This perennial grass is highly adaptable, thriving in well-drained soils under full sun to partial shade. It’s particularly effective in restoration projects, serving as a quick-growing cover crop that helps stabilize soil and attract wildlife.
