Cinderella Swamp Milkweed

Cinderella Swamp Milkweed combines the exceptional wildlife value of native swamp milkweed with especially rich flower color and a tidy upright habit. Rounded clusters of deep rosy-pink, vanilla-scented flowers rise above narrow green foliage in midsummer and continue for weeks, followed by elongated seed pods that release silky seeds later in the year.

This is not a cultivar of native Asclepias incarnata, but rather a selected variation, meaning ‘Cinderella’ remains an important monarch host plant and nectar source for numerous butterflies and other pollinators. Despite the “swamp” name, it does not require standing water: it grows successfully in ordinary medium garden soil as long as it does not become chronically dry, while also thriving in moist and periodically wet locations.

• Plant in full sun to light partial sun and provide regular moisture while establishing.
• Leave stems and seed pods standing into winter when possible.
• Cut old growth down in early spring.
