Common Hop Sedge

Carex lupulina

Common Hop Sedge, like many other sedge species, forms dense clumps of upright, arching leaves that can reach up to 4 feet in height. In late spring, it produces bright green, cone-shaped seed heads that resemble hops - hence its common name - providing food for birds and other wildlife. This sedge thrives in wet soils and can tolerate seasonal flooding, making it perfect for pond edges, rain gardens, and wet meadows.
