Emerald Blue Creeping Phlox

Emerald Blue creates a broad carpet of cool lavender-blue flowers at a time when relatively few other perennials are in peak bloom. The flowers rise only slightly above dense, fine-textured foliage, producing an almost continuous wash of color while providing early nectar for bees and butterflies.

As a selection of native Phlox subulata, ‘Emerald Blue’ remains adapted to sunny, well-drained, rocky and sandy situations. Its creeping stems root along the ground as they spread, helping the plant cover exposed soil and stabilize slopes. Evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage continues providing structure after its spring display ends.

• Give it plenty of sun and excellent drainage.
• Shear lightly after flowering if the mat becomes uneven.
• Avoid deep mulch around stems because excessive moisture can encourage decline.
