Ohio Spiderwort
Tradescantia ohiensis
Prairies and meadows herald the beginning of summer with the deep blue flowers of Ohio Spiderwort. Its azure blossoms are set off by the bright-gold pollen on its six anthers. The petals unfurl in the morning sun and shyly close in the mid-day heat. Ohio Spiderwort's grass-like, blueish leaves subtly contrast with other garden foliage. This flower's petals are edible, and the leaves can be cooked as a green. Adapts well to tough conditions and flowers best in full sun.
