Prairie Sedge
Carex bicknellii
Prairie Sedge forms clumps of fine foliage topped by small seed heads in the spring. This plant makes an attractive low-growing border or matrix that complements a colorful wildflower garden. The seed heads resemble a string of tiny pineapples, and the seeds are consumed by a variety of birds. Compared to other sedges, this species prefers drier, sunnier habitats.
