Robin's Plantain
Erigeron pulchellus
Robin's Plantain graces spring with masses of small, pink-tinged daisy-like flowers, creating a picturesque scene. As flower stalks fade, they reveal the underlying fuzzy basal leaves which form a nice groundcover. Trimming spent flower stalks enhances tidiness, yet leaving some seeds ensures this short-lived perennial will persist in the garden. Small bees and butterflies frequently visit Robin's Plantain as it is a prolific nectar-producer. This plant is adaptable to various soil types, as long as it is well-drained, and it actually prefers low-nutrient soils.
