Royal Catchfly
Silene regia
This plant is a hummingbird magnet. Most insects cannot see the color red, so all of the nectar is saved for hummingbirds and a few butterfly species. Be sure to spend some time outside in mid-summer to watch for visitors to its blooms. Royal Catchfly is not a vigorous grower and its taproot cannot be divided, but you can encourage it to spread by clearing away mulch and other debris around the base of the plant after it flowers. Needs the support of neighbors to remain upright.
