Showy Black-Eyed Susan
Rudbeckia fulgida
Orange Coneflower, also called Showy Black-Eyed Susan, grows as spreading mounds of attractive green foliage. The leaves are topped with mounds of flowers for a few months in summer and into fall. The flowers are a rich orange yellow that seem to glow in the light of the evening. Butterflies are attracted to the blooms, while goldfinches and other birds eat the seeds in the fall. Orange Coneflower spreads to form large colonies. Divide and pull seedlings to control the spread, or plant alone for a dazzling display.
