Silky Willow
Salix sericea
Silky Willow is a medium-sized deciduous shrub that typically grows between 6 to 10 feet tall. It is particularly noted for its narrow, silky, blue-green leaves that shimmer in the breeze and provide a unique textural element in the landscape. In early spring, small yellowish catkins appear, attracting a variety of pollinators and providing an early food source. Silky Willow is ideally suited for riparian buffers, wet meadows, and naturalized areas, as it thrives in wet, poorly drained soils and full to partial sun, playing a vital role in stabilizing soil and supporting water quality.
