Sky Blue Aster
Symphyotrichum oolentangiense
Sky Blue Aster produces an abundance of light blue and lilac flowers in the fall. The late bloom brings a burst of color at the end of the season, and provides pollinators with a needed food source as they are preparing for winter. While other asters can spread prolifically, this well-behaved aster stays in place. It also tolerates poor soils as long as they are well-drained. Heavily mulched beds will prevent this short-lived perennial from persisting in the garden but brushing the mulch away from the base of Sky Blue Aster can help it reseed.

- This is a relatively short-lived Aster - consider encouraging re-seeding by clearing the ground around this plant in the Fall and allowing some seedlings to take root in the following year.
