Sweet Goldenrod
Solidago odora
What embodies a meadow better than goldenrods in fall? Crowned with yellow blooms, Sweet Goldenrod supports an impressive array of pollinators. Specialist bees visit the flowers to collect pollen for their young, and moths and caterpillars lay eggs on its leaves. When crushed, the leaves release an anise scent, creating a multi-sensory experience in the garden. These flowers do not cause seasonal allergies, though they are sometimes blamed for the symptoms caused by ragweed, which blooms at the same time.
