Tussock Sedge

Carex stricta

Tussock Sedge is a key species in wetland environments, where it thrives in standing water and soggy soils. It grows in distinctive clumps that can rise slightly above the water's surface. The plant features bright green, narrow leaves that grow in a dense, upright fashion, reaching heights of up to 3 feet. In spring, it produces modest brown flower spikes that blend into the foliage. Tussock sedge is ideal for naturalizing in wet areas, rain gardens, and along water edges where its root system helps stabilize soil and filter water.
