Virginia Rose
Rosa virginiana
Virginia Rose is a robust and low-maintenance shrub that adds both beauty and ecological value to the landscape. It typically grows up to 3 to 6 feet tall and features deep green, glossy leaves. In early to mid-summer, it produces showy, fragrant pink flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators (and people!). From there, it flowers give way to bright red rose hips that persist through winter, providing food for birds and small mammals. The thorny stems make it an excellent choice for natural hedges and wildlife barriers. Virginia rose thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a range of conditions including coastal exposure and drought.
