Wild Lupine
Lupinus perennis
Wild lupine features distinctive, tall spikes of vibrant blue to purple flowers that emerge in late spring and early summer. Its palmate leaves add an interesting textural element to garden designs. This native perennial is especially important for the conservation of the Karner Blue Butterfly, whose larvae feed exclusively on lupine leaves. Thriving in well-drained, sandy soils, Wild Lupine is an excellent choice for native plant gardens, sand prairies, and restoration projects where it can help enhance biodiversity.

Maintenance Tips
- Moderately drought-tolerant; water regularly during prolonged dry spells.
- Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a second flush of flowers and to prevent excessive self-seeding.
- Avoid division as this plant prefers not to be disturbed once established.
- Allow seedlings to naturalize in natural settings or remove them to maintain order in formal garden areas.
