Wood Lily
Lilium philadelphicum
Wood Lily, is a captivating native perennial that grows typically 1 to 3 feet tall. Unlike many lilies that require full sun, the wood lily flourishes in partial shade, making it well-suited for woodland gardens or naturalized areas. Its upright stems are topped with one or more vibrant, turk's-cap-shaped flowers, each featuring six recurved petals that are orange to red with distinctive dark spots. These stunning blooms not only add visual interest but are also an important nectar source for hummingbirds and butterflies during their blooming period in early to mid-summer. Wood lily prefers well-drained soils and is relatively drought-tolerant once established.

Maintenance Tips
- Water regularly during the growing season, especially in dry conditions, to maintain moist but well-drained soil.
- Deadheading is not necessary as this plant does not typically rebloom, but removing old stems after flowering can help maintain tidiness.
- Thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil; amend with organic matter to improve soil structure if necessary.
- Apply a light layer of mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds without smothering the plant.
- Monitor for common lily pests such as lily beetles and diseases like lily mosaic virus. Treat as needed to keep the plants healthy.
