Woolgrass

Scirpus cyperinus

Woolgrass, is not actually a true grass but a sedge that resembles grass with its tall, clumping growth. It thrives in moist to wet environments, making it ideal for naturalizing along water edges, in rain gardens, or in other damp areas of the landscape. In late summer, it produces distinctive, woolly brown seed heads that stand out against its green foliage. These seed heads persist into fall, providing visual interest and food for birds. Woolgrass's ability to tolerate fluctuating water levels also makes it valuable for erosion control and habitat restoration projects.
