Wrinkle Leaved Goldenrod
Solidago rugosa
This goldenrod sports large, crinkly leaves and widely arching sprays of yellow flowers that resemble fireworks. Often found on woodland edges, where the flowers seem to glow in the light of a late summer evening. A good goldenrod for clay soils and wet spots, though it can tolerate drought once established. Goldenrods support pollinators and many caterpillar species. This goldenrod can be aggressive while the garden is getting established. Remove seedlings and sink a shovel around the base of the plants in spring starting in its second year to chop runners.
