About this Plant

Meadow Anemone is a lush, fast-spreading native groundcover that brings a cheerful brightness to moist, partially shaded spaces. Its crisp white, buttercup-like flowers with yellow centers bloom in late spring and early summer, floating above a dense carpet of deeply lobed green foliage. The leaves stay attractive through the growing season, making this plant a valuable filler in naturalized or rain garden settings.

This species spreads via underground rhizomes and is highly effective at suppressing weeds, controlling erosion, and stabilizing soil in wetter garden zones.

Why Choose Meadow Anemone?

Bright spring blooms and lush summer foliage
Great for moist soils and rain gardens
Provides dense, weed-suppressing groundcover

Cut back foliage in fall if desired. To prevent unwanted spread, install root barriers or thin plants regularly.

Maintenance Tips

Prefers consistently moist soil; water regularly, especially in dry conditions.
Cut back after flowering to tidy the plant and discourage excessive spreading
Thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil
Use a shovel to remove unwanted rhizomes to control spread, especially in smaller gardens, if required
Divide every few years in spring to rejuvenate growth and manage its expanse
