Allegheny Serviceberry

Allegheny Serviceberry is a multi-season showstopper. In early spring, it’s one of the first to bloom with delicate white flowers that light up the garden and feed awakening pollinators. Summer brings clusters of deep purple berries that birds love (and humans can eat!), followed by fiery fall foliage in shades of red, orange, and gold. It can be grown as a small, elegant tree or a large multi-stemmed shrub and brings structure, color, and ecological value to any yard.

Why Choose Allegheny Serviceberry?

• Early food for pollinators followed by berries for birds.
• Stunning seasonal transitions, from blooms to berries to bold fall color.
• Flexible form – works as a specimen tree or naturalistic shrub.
• Compact and adaptable, ideal for yards, borders, or woodland edges.

Maintenance Tips

• Prune lightly after flowering to maintain form or remove lower suckers if growing as a single-trunk tree.
• Mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
• Water regularly the first year; drought-tolerant once established.
• No need to fertilize, especially in healthy soil; avoid overfeeding, which can reduce berry and bloom production.
