Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod brings a soft golden glow to shady or partly sunny gardens each fall. Unlike the towering goldenrods of open fields, this species forms low, arching wands of flowers that seem to float above the woodland floor. Its blooms are small but abundant, lining purple-tinged stems with a delicate touch that belies their ecological power.

Goldenrods are among the most valuable native perennials for wildlife. Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod supports a wide array of native bees, including many specialist species, as well as moth and butterfly caterpillars that feed on its foliage. Though commonly blamed for fall allergies, goldenrods are insect-pollinated and produce almost no airborne pollen. The true culprit is ragweed, which blooms unseen at the same time.

Why Choose Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod?

  • Shade-tolerant goldenrod for woodland or edge plantings
  • Supports dozens of native bee and caterpillar species
  • Blooms late in the season when few others do
  • Does not cause seasonal allergies
  • Compact and garden-friendly compared to other goldenrods

Cut back stems in early spring to refresh growth. Divide every few years to manage clump size and vigor.
