About this Plant

Palmleaf Mistflower brings soft texture and big pollinator payoff to warm, sunny gardens. Its deeply divided, fernlike foliage creates a delicate green backdrop, while clusters of powdery lavender-blue flowers bloom from summer into fall. Planted in groups, the flowers create a hazy cloud of color that pairs beautifully with golden grasses, warm-toned wildflowers, and desert shrubs.

Native to the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico, Palmleaf Mistflower thrives in heat and tolerates drought once established. It is especially valuable for butterfly gardens, where monarchs, queens, skippers, and other nectar-seeking insects gather on the blooms. Growing 1–2 feet tall, it spreads gradually by underground stems, making it useful for knitting together sunny borders, dry streambeds, and naturalized plantings.

Why Choose Palmleaf Mistflower?

Excellent nectar plant for monarchs, queens, skippers, and butterflies
Lavender-blue blooms add soft color from summer into fall
Fernlike foliage brings delicate texture to dry gardens
Spreads to form colorful colonies when given room
Great for sunny borders, butterfly gardens, and naturalized plantings

Give Palmleaf Mistflower room to spread, or thin colonies as needed to keep it in bounds. Provide occasional water during establishment, and consider light afternoon shade in very hot, exposed sites.

Maintenance Tips

Plant Palmleaf Mistflower in sun to light shade and well-drained soil, providing occasional deep water during prolonged drought for the best flowering.
Its underground stems can spread beyond the original clump, so divide plants or remove wandering shoots when needed.
Cut back old growth in late winter or early spring.
