Provide afternoon shade in hot climates for the freshest foliage, and water during establishment. Cut back or thin spreading stems as needed to shape the plant or manage colony size.

Description
Red Turk’s Cap brings vivid red flowers to partly shaded spaces where many blooming plants struggle. From summer into fall, its leafy stems are dotted with distinctive blossoms whose overlapping petals stay curled around a prominent column of stamens, creating the turban-like shape behind the plant’s common name. The result is a long-lasting floral display with a tropical feel, even in native and naturalistic plantings.
This adaptable native shrub is especially valuable for hummingbirds, which readily visit its nectar-rich flowers. Butterflies and other pollinators also stop by, while the fleshy red fruits that follow are eaten by birds and small mammals. Typically growing 3–6 feet tall, Red Turk’s Cap works beautifully under open tree canopies, along woodland edges, in shaded borders, or as an informal flowering hedge where it has room to spread.
Why Choose Red Turk's Cap?
- Bright red flowers are excellent for hummingbirds
- Blooms from summer into fall in part shade
- Fruits support birds and small mammals
