Purple Giant Hyssop (Agastache scrophulariifolia) is a towering, pollinator-friendly native perennial that adds deer resistant grace and ecological value to the summer and fall garden. This 32-plant pack is ideal for naturalistic borders, pollinator gardens, and meadow plantings where height, color, and wildlife support are key.
From mid-summer through fall, this plant produces long plumes of soft purple to white flowers, which attract native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in droves. Its anise-scented foliage adds a fragrant touch, and the cylindrical seed heads provide visual interest in the winter garden.
Despite its size—often reaching 4 to 6 feet tall—Purple Giant Hyssop rarely flops and remains upright even in rich soils. If a more compact form is desired, it can be cut back in early summer to reduce height.
Why Choose a Tray of Purple Giant Hyssop?
- Pollinator magnet – Blooms for weeks, feeding bees, butterflies & hummingbirds.
- Fragrant & ornamental – Anise-scented foliage and striking seed heads.
- Tall but tidy – Stands upright without staking, even in rich soil.
Plant Purple Giant Hyssop in full sun to light shade and enjoy a stately, long-blooming native that supports wildlife and brings vertical elegance to your garden.
- As a relative short-lived perennial, consider letting a few seedlings to become established every couple of years to allow this awesome plant to persist in your garden
- If spread becomes an issue, however you may also need to remove some seedlings before they become established
- Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom time
- Consider chopping well established Purple Giant Hyssop roughly in half in early summer to reduce overall height and increase bushiness
- Though rarely required, you may consider staking taller stems of Purple Giant Hyssop to improve their stance
